Pokémon Go was an absolutely monolithic force during its peak in popularity this summer, and while its prominence is waning (unless you’re the prime minister of Norway), that’s to be expected with anything as ubiquitous as the game was. It’s tough for any app to retain daily users after the initial launch, but it looks like an upcoming update to the game will significantly incentivize users who play the game everyday.
Data miners have found (via Gamnesia) that the game will be receiving daily quests and bonuses, and that’s now been confirmed by Niantic, who revealed that completing certain activities, like visiting your first PokéStop of the day and catching your first Pokémon of the day, will result in XP, Stardust, and/or items. Also, completing these tasks consistently will bode well for trainers. Here’s the breakdown straight from the horse’s mouth:
Catching a Pokémon every day will earn the following bonus:
• 500 XP
• 600 StardustCatching a Pokémon every day for 7 days straight will earn the following larger bonus:
• 2,000 XP
• 2,400 StardustVisiting a PokéStop and spinning the Photo Disc every day will earn the following bonus:
• 500 XP
• A number of additional itemsVisiting a PokéStop every day for 7 days straight will earn the following larger bonus:
• 2,000 XP
• A greater number of additional items
These new bonuses should be an effective way to both give seasoned players more motivation to revisit the game regularly, and for newer or less experienced players to not feel so intimidated to give Pokémon Go a go, since it’ll be easier to catch up and be competitive with nearby trainers.
