Citing unnamed insiders, the presence of Chris Hemsworth (who’s a tourism ambassador in addition to those movies he stars in) and commercial director Steve Rogers (Hemsworth can’t stay away from guys with that name, apparently), and the fact that Tourism Australia and Screen Australia decline to comment at all, they’ve deduced it’s most likely not a feature film.Too bad. It was shaping up to at least be better than the last movie.

Then, in 2001, arguably 11 years too late, came Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles, an attempted return to fish-out-of-water comedy that quickly came and went from theaters.And now…there’s this.
No, it is not a Funny or Die sketch; People magazine broke the news, and Rimfire is the real production company behind the previous films. This is actually Danny McBride as Brian Dundee in Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home. And for those of you doing the age math, no, this is not the son from Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles, whose name was Mikey and who was played by an actor much younger than Danny McBride. This is Mick Dundee’s illegitimate, previously unknown son, and yes, Paul Hogan is back, though the plot synopsis makes it sound like he’ll be pulling Mark-Hamill-in-The-Force-Awakens duty.Per the official site: “Crocodile Dundee is back. Well, actually, he’s missing in the Outback. And the only person who might be able to find him is the loudmouthed American son no-one knew he had. Introducing Danny McBride as Brian Dundee. This son of a legend is forced to channel his Aussie roots as he embarks on the ultimate adventure in the land down under. It’s time to live up to the family name.”McBride and Hogan aren’t quite as odd a pairing as they may seem. Though Mick Dundee was a man of action, Hogan himself was a popular sketch comedian on Australian TV, with a show McBride would have fit right into. Curiously, he’s doing neither a fake Australian accent nor his trademark Appalachian twang, but a nervous-sounding “city boy” voice.So if this is like The Force Awakens, does that mean the next installment will have angry, anti-social Crocodile Dundee?
