Carrie Fisher’s Personal STAR WARS Scripts Are Up for Auction

Many fans know that the late Carrie Fisher wasn’t only our beloved Princess Leia Organa, she eventually became one of Hollywood’s go-to script doctors, using her wit and skill to punch up lackluster screenplays in Hollywood, like Last Action Hero and Hook, among many others.

But what a lot of people don’t know is that the seeds for that career were planted during her days shooting the Star Wars films for George Lucas. Fisher was known for taking her pencil out and crossing out some of the clunkier dialogue in the script and replacing it with her own witty retorts. This was especially evident on The Empire Strikes Back. In fact, her personal script for Empire has over 1000 words in her handwriting!

Now the auction house Profiles in History, which some of you out there might remember from the Syfy reality series Hollywood Treasure, is auctioning off Carrie Fisher’s scripts from the classic Star Wars trilogy, complete with all of her handwritten notes, and all signed by George Lucas himself. In fact, the script for Return of the Jedi is inscribed “For Carrie Easy to say lines George,” a joke about the fact that Fisher (and Harrison Ford) often told Lucas “you can type this shit, but you can’t say it” in regards to the Star Wars dialogue.

There are actually four scripts going up for auction, as she had two different ones for Empire. Her script for a the original Star Wars is an early draft, which reads “The Adventures of Luke Starkiller as taken from the ‘Journal of the Whills’ by George Lucas (Saga I) Star Wars.” Her most written in Empire script is expected to go for $30,000 – $50,000, while the other three are expected to sell at about  $20,000 – $30,000. So start saving your pennies, kids.

All the Star Wars scripts are going up for auction during Profiles In History’s three day Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds Personal Property Auction on October 7th, 8th and 9th in Los Angeles. For more information on the upcoming auction, be sure to head on over to the Profiles in History site.
