It’s a good time to be Batman. With The Batman movie about to release, the Dark Knight has all eyes on him. And this newer, broodier version of Batman, played by Robert Pattinson, brings such a delightfully emo sensibility to the table that it’s no wonder other characters want to join in on the fun. In this case, Sonic. In a new Sonic the Hedgehog 2 teaser trailer, Sonic takes some time off from his usual persona to become “Blue Justice.” This new hero lurks on rooftops and watches the chaotic city below him. Not to mention, Sonic now speaks in a low growly voice that brings to mind Batmans of yore… And, to cap it all off, he strikes poses against the moon.
Sonic (or Blue Justice) monologues, “I have been called many names… Vengeance, the Spikey Supernova, but you may call me BLUE JUSTICE!”
It all feels very dramatic. And very Batman. In fact, it brings to mind one of Batman’s famous monologues from Batman: The Animated Series. In it, Batman announces, “I am vengeance. I am the night. I am BATMAN.”
Honestly, we wouldn’t mind a Batman and Sonic team-up sometime. We feel like Pattinson’s Batman and Sonic would make for an especially compelling pair. James Marsden’s character, however, doesn’t seem so sure. “Seriously, pretending to be Batman?” He asks Sonic in exasperation. But Sonic wants to keep things clear. He is “Blue Justice” and nothing else. (Trademark pending.) We wish him the best with his superhero career.
Although we likely won’t see Sonic in The Batman or Batman in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, we can happily see both these movies soon. The Batman releases in theaters on March 4. Meanwhile, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 blasts into action on April 8. We hope the Dark Knight and the Spikey Supernova both make their way to victory, bangs and tail (respectively) intact.
