One of the Biggest Animes Out Now Features a Cat in the Banana

Powered by Geek & Sundry

In today’s world of politics, global warming, and other really heavy stuff, sometimes we need a break.

Sometimes we need a hero.

Sometimes we need a cat who lives in a banana?

Yuki Kaji, the voice actor for Eren Yeager from Attack on Titan and Naruhodou from the Ace Attorney anime, has turned his talents to the strange. He is now the voice of Bananya; the tiny, white cat who lives in a banana and dreams of becoming a chocolate-covered banana someday. The title Bananya comes from the words “banana” and “nyan,” (which is “Meow” in Japanese).

The three minute long episodes are cute, funny, and bite sized; a great way to unwind after reading twitter for any amount of time.

There are three episodes up right now on the anime streaming service,  Crunchyroll. The first shows you how the narrator “discovered” Bananya cats and the second introduces you to all the different kitties. Each one is going to make you keel over with cuteness. I’m particularly in love with Mackerel Tabby Bananya. He is is adorably nervous.

Originally created by Osaka-based stationery manufacturer Q-lia, Bananya was such a hit that the anime was crowdfunded last year. You can already find a ton of Bananya merchandise online to surround yourself in. So head on over to  Bananya on Crunchyroll and check out the absurd banana-cat madness.
