Learn How to Play the Epic Tabletop Adventure ANASTYR

Powered by Geek & Sundry

For having a name like Mythic Games, the tabletop game producers have yet to have a game set in the Heroic Fantasy genre. Until now, of course. Mythic Games has just launched a Kickstarter for its latest, Anastyr. But this isn’t any regular dungeon-crawler or co-op game. Anastyr will fulfill a long-held desire for Mythi—to bring the beat-em-up style of video games like Streets of Rage and Final Fight into the board game world. All set in a historical epic fantasy. Intrigued? Well check out our latest episode of How to Play to get more.

Embark on an epic quest to save the world from Anastyr, the queen of dragons, in this action-packed cooperative board game for 1 to 4 players. Set in a brutal fantasy world, players undertake an epic campaign full of action, adventure, and vile monsters. Join Becca Scott as she breaks down everything you need to know about how to play Anastyr.

The Mythic Games release of Anastyr featuring the box art and resin figures is now live on the Kickstarter.

The story of Anastyr takes place in the Bronze Age, in the time between the sinking of Atlantis and the Great Flood covering the world. You and your band fight in the steaming swamps and lush jungles of what will one day be the Mediterranean Sea. Each player takes on the role of a powerful hero. Together the players embark on an incredible odyssey. They will have to face hordes of enemies and monsters, wizards and warlords that vary greatly depending on the environment. Each hero can pick up equipment specific to whatever region and will see their fighting style evolve as they go along. Hopefully they’ll be ready to face the ultimate threat at the end of an epic and adventurous campaign.

As you could see from the video and the images above, the board and resin figures are gorgeous. The whole game has a real Golden Axe vibe, if you’ve ever played that old side-scrolling beat-em-up. Except it’s a board game! It’s epic history mixed with action and fantasy. What’s not to like?
