Monarchies of Mau Brings Cats Into the World of Pugmire

Powered by Geek & Sundry

Last year, gamers were introduced to Eddy Webb’s Pugmire, a post-apocalyptic fantasy that cast players in the role of anthropomorphic dogs in a world where humans no longer exist. Pugmire established that anthropomorphic cats also lived in that world, but it didn’t give gamers the chance to play as a feline. The upcoming tabletop rpg, Monarchies of Mau, is the thematic sequel to Pugmire that shares the same world. And this time, players get to be the best cat that they can be!

Pugsteady has teamed up with Onyx Path Publishing for Monarchies of Mau, which launched on Kickstarter this week and met its fundraising goals in just under an hour. And as you might expect, the cats are the heroes of their own story. In fact, the most heroic of felines attempt to live up to the tenants of Mau: always reward loyalty, always respect an honest duel, always trust your instincts, and always pounce upon minions of the unseen. It sounds like pretty good advice in general!

Amusingly, the lowest reward tiers of this campaign allows gamers to put either their name or the name of their cat on the list of backers. A digital version of the game is available for only a $20 pledge, but the physical book will be $45. There are also options for fans who missed Pugmire to buy that title and Monarchies of Mau as both digital files and physical books. There are also some enticing extras for higher reward tiers, including a GameMaster’s screen and the ability to name a location in the game itself.

The Monarchies of Mau Kickstarter will last until Thursday, June 15, and the game is expected to be released in May 2018. For more information, you can visit the official campaign page here.
