Netflix’s 2018 movie The Christmas Chronicles was a fun, uplifting family movie that featured one of the best St. Nicks in holiday film history. Kurt Russell’s Santa Claus was a gift to everyone; Kurt Kringle was funny, daring, and caring. He was also a damn good singer. Now this year we’re all getting an amazing present. He’s back in the red suit for a whole new adventure. And the first trailer for The Christmas Chronicles 2 not only looks bigger, it looks even better. Because this time he needs Mrs. Claus help to save Christmas from its greatest threat. And Goldie Hawn makes everything better.
“It’s been two years since siblings Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis) saved Christmas, and a lot has changed. Kate, now a cynical teenager, is reluctantly spending Christmas in Cancun with her mom’s new boyfriend (Tyrese Gibson) and his son Jack (Jahzir Bruno). Unwilling to accept this new version of her family, Kate decides to run away. But when a mysterious, magical troublemaker named Belsnickel threatens to destroy the North Pole and end Christmas for good, Kate and Jack are unexpectedly pulled into a new adventure with Santa Claus (Kurt Russell).”
The Christmas Chronicles 2 is directed and co-written by someone who knows a little something about Christmas movies, Home Alone‘s Chris Columbus. The film also stars Deadpool 2‘s Julian Dennison as the evil Belsnickel. He wants to steal the Christmas star, leaving the North Pole vulnerable and the holiday ruined. That will lead to an action-packed fight that looks far more intense—and fun—than even the original movie.
But as this trailer shows, even in the midst of an all out war there’s always time for yet another rousing musical performance from Santa Russell. Obviously he can’t help himself. Much to our ever-lasting delight.
The Christmas Chronicles 2 comes to select theaters this November, and to Netflix on November 25.
