Modders Already Put BREATH OF THE WILD’S Link in SMASH BROS.

Super Smash Bros. Wii U will be ported to the Nintendo Switch and released at some point, but not on launch day tomorrow. Isn’t that a bit too long to wait to use the blue tunic-wearing Link from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, who we imagine would be included in the updated game? Well, thanks to a modder, you can use the new version of Link in Smash starting tomorrow (via Kotaku).

A modder who goes by DemonSlayerX8 edited blue Link into the Wii U game, and for players who know their way around console game mods, they’ll have access to the data needed to make this happen tomorrow, likely to coincide with the Switch’s launch. Take a look at the Breath of the Wild link in action below:

It looks like the appearance is the only thing that has been updated, since this new Link seems to function the same as the old one does. The character model looks pretty accurate, though. We’re not sure if the modder had access to resources from the Switch game or put more work into it than that, but you can take a pretty good look at the result when the video above pauses the game, at around 30 seconds in.

Also yes, that is Picollo from Dragon Ball Z that Link is going up against. This isn’t DemonSlayerX8’s first time modding a character into a Smash game, as he’s given the same treatment to everybody from Deadpool to Ganondorf as he appears in Hyrule Warriors. Fun fan projects like this are proof that, as Kotaku put it, modders are extending the life of the misunderstood Wii U.
