The Star Wars universe is expanding its cinematic reach, giving us stories like Rogue One and the upcoming Han Solo standalone film. While we know next to nothing about the Han Solo movie (apart from the actor who will be bringing young Solo and his pals Chewie and Lando Calrissian to life), Rogue One looks fantastic. So for the time being, everyone seems cautiously optimistic about the universe expanding in films.
However, there is one obvious place for the Star Wars films to go that hasn’t yet been announced, and that’s telling Obi-Wan Kenobi’s story. It seems like a no-brainer. Obi-Wan is a well-loved character with a pretty fascinating backstory, and unlike characters like Han, Lando, Luke, or Leia, a younger actor doesn’t have to be cast to play Obi-Wan. We’ve got Ewan McGregor who, regardless of your feelings about Episodes I through III, did a great job portraying the enigmatic Jedi.Star Wars fan Rich Williamson decided that Obi-Wan’s story needed to be told, and decided to create a fabulous trailer for an Obi-Wan movie. Though it isn’t explicitly stated, the trailer makes it seem that Williamson’s film would focus on the Jedi between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Take a peek:

I don’t know about you, but I’d watch the crap out of that movie! Of course, while I’m a huge fan of Ewan McGregor, revising his version of Kenobi would reignite the continuity problems between Episodes I-III and Episodes IV-VI like Anakin wanting Obi-Wan to have his light saber, Kenobi inexplicably not remembering Artoo and Threepio in A New Hope, his having aged extremely rapidly in the span of two decades, or Leia being able to remember that her mother looked beautiful but sad. On the other hand, a Kenobi standalone film could help explain some of those inconsistencies (or just do what The Force Awakens did and pretend the prequel trilogy doesn’t exist).
Despite this great-looking trailer, it’s ultimately just a fan-made creation (using a lot of footage from Last Days in the Desert, where he plays Jesus and the Devil). There is nothing other than rumors that an Obi-Wan film is coming our way any time soon, though McGregor has expressed he’d be happy to return to Star Wars. Since they’ve already tapped McGregor to reprise his role for one, brief line in The Force Awakens, we can hope, right?
