Neil Gaiman’s first novel (that he wrote with the late Terry Pratchett) has found its angel and demon at the end of the world and we couldn’t have fan-castedOpens in a new tab a better pair for the roles of Aziraphale and Crowley on the hunt for the Antichrist, who seems to have gone missing. We hate to sound like a cornball but these are some good omens for the Good Omens TV series Amazon is doing with Gaiman. (I’m sorry.)According to VarietyOpens in a new tab, Michael Sheen—of Passengers, Frost/Nixon and “Handsome Andy Serkis” fame—is slated to play the obtuse and persnickety angel Aziraphale, while David Tennant (of Doctor WhoOpens in a new tab fame) will immediately go from playing one sorta demon (Kilgrave on Netflix and Marvel’s Jessica JonesOpens in a new tab) to another, more literal one, in the Amazon series.
“I first read Good Omens as a teenager and it’s been one of my favourite stories ever since,” Sheen explained in a statement to Variety. “To be part of the team entrusted with bringing it alive on screen is a bit of a dream come true to be honest. To work alongside Neil, who I think is one of the greatest storytellers of all time, is incredibly exciting. And, just like the rest of the world, I’m a huge fan of David’s so I relish trying to save it with him.”Anyone else feeling like this is the perfect complement series to AMC’s PreacherOpens in a new tab and that gang’s hunt for a missing god? Fingers crossed Tennant’s nephews on DuckTales, where he’s the voice of Scrooge McDuckOpens in a new tab, don’t fall into the k-hole of crossovers though, because there actually is such a thing as having “too much of a good time.”What do you think of the casting?
