A JUSTICE LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN Brings Together Baseball and Superheroes

Playing sports in any sort of official capacity wasn’t my thing when I was a kid, but I did it anyway. I mostly attempted athletics because my parents forced the issue, but I also committed to softball because of A League of Their Own. When the movie hit VHS 25 years ago (I know, I feel your pain), I played it on repeat. Dottie Hinson, Mae Mordabito, Doris Murphy, Jimmy Dugan–they introduced me to the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL), and, in turn, became my heroes. So, it’s all too fitting to see them paired with the Justice League.

HalloweenCostumes.com put together A Justice League of Their Own, which is a damn fine pun, in honor of A League of Their Own‘s 25th anniversary. Dottie, Kit, Mae, Doris, and Mamie Johnson (who isn’t in the film, but who, in real life, attempted to try out for the AAGPBL and was shut down because of her race) all get suited up and paired with a matching hero.

Doris is styled as the Batman of the group, which is fitting given how she uses cutting remarks and tough love to show she cares.

But the MVP? My girl Dottie. She’s dressed as Wonder Woman, who as far as I’m concerned is the leader of the Justice League. Dottie takes care of business, almost always keeps her cool, and shows compassion. You can see more individual portraits of the characters at HalloweenCostumes.com.

Also. All I want for convention season is to see a group of cosplayers bring this art to life. TJ Anderson‘s little girl is already set:

Which Justice League characters would you pick for the AAGPBL players? Tell me in the comments.
