Surprise! Just this morning we got our very first look at images from the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series. We were already in awe of the handful of images of Ewan McGregor back his iconic Jedi ‘fit after so, so many years away. But as a little treat, Lucasfilm just gave us a full Obi-Wan Kenobi teaser. And it is as stunning as we’d hoped.

This incredible teaser trailer sets the stage for the upcoming series, even though it’s only a small taste. Already, the central themes of the show are emerging. And though we know the before and after of what will happen in Obi-Wan Kenobi, we are on the edge of our seats. “Duel of the Fates” brings some serious chills!

“The fight is done. We lost. Stay hidden, ” Obi-Wan laments over voiceover, as we see him keep an eye on… an adolescent Luke! But while the Jedi have lost, for now, the dark side isn’t content with just that. The Great Jedi Purge continues a decade after Revenge of the Sith, with the Grand Inquisitor seeking to eradicate the remaining Jedi and their compassionate nature.

Lucasfilm also released a brief synopsis for the series to go along with Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s teaser. It shares:

The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

This description doesn’t say too much. But it confirms Obi-Wan Kenobi picks up a decade after Revenge of the Sith. The series also boasts a spectacular cast of returning and new faces. Ewan McGregor, of course, reprises his role as the titular Jedi Master. Hayden Christensen also returns as Darth Vader. Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse reprise their roles as Owen Lars and Beru Lars, who took Luke in. Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie round out the cast.

We’ve already met Ingram’s Reva, the series’ new baddie who works under the Grand Inquisitor. But the trailer confirms that Rupert Friend is taking on the role of the Grand Inquisitor himself. We’ve only seen the Grand Inquisitor in an animated form before this. But we think he’ll make an epic live-action villain in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Deborah Chow directs Obi-Wan Kenobi, with scripts from Joby Harold. The pair also executive produce alongside McGregor, Kathleen Kennedy, and Michelle Rejwan.
