Recently, we learned that Spider-Man director Jon Watts was leading a new Star Wars project. At the time, the series was still going by its codename Grammar Rodeo. During the Studio Showcase panel at Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm and Jon Watts shared a little bit more about the series. This includes its title and a pretty big name star. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will star Jude Law, and it arrives on Disney+ in 2023. At the latest D23 Expo, we even got to see a first-look image from Skeleton Crew featuring Jude Law.

Set during The Mandalorian‘s timeline, the series follows a group of kids on an adventure. Specifically, it’s a group of kids who get lost in the galaxy and must find their way home. So this very much sounds like a Goonies-esque adventure in space. And we are here for it. We don’t know who Jude Law is playing—certainly not one of the lost children—but it wouldn’t be too surprising if he’s a villainous figure. Given its setting, in the immediate years following the Empire’s destruction, there are still a bunch of baddies hiding out there.

Jon Watts, Christopher Ford, Jon Favreau, and Dave Filoni will executive produce the series. It makes a whole lot of sense to see Favreau and Filoni—who are major architects for the Disney+ Star Wars shows —attached to produce. After all, they’ve spent a lot of time in the post-Empire aftermath. But does this mean the Skeleton Crew kids might run into Din Djarin or Ahsoka. Or even Grogu? We can certainly dream!

We’re certainly looking forward to finding out a lot more about this show. Filoni offered one interesting tease. He noted that while the series stars a bunch of kids “it’s as much for kids as The Clone Wars.” Now that is something to think about.
