OBI-WAN KENOBI Changes Release Date, Reveals Two Episode Premiere

Life in a galaxy far, far away moves fast. Some might say in hyperdrive. Especially when it comes to the many shows and movies that Disney’s universe has to juggle. Disney+‘s Obi-Wan Kenobi was meant to release on Wednesday, May 25. But Ewan McGregor, Obi-Wan himself, recently shared a change in the plan. Obi-Wan Kenobi will now release on Friday, May 27. And it will drop two of its episodes on its premiere day.

Of course, had Obi-Wan Kenobi kept its May 25 Disney+ release date, it would have paid homage to an important day in Star Wars history. The original Star Wars movie released on May 25, 1977. And May 25, 2022, would have marked its 45th anniversary. That certainly would have made for a fun Easter egg/tribute. Still, we can’t complain about a series releasing on a Friday. And it opens up the whole weekend for speculating about the nuances of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Not to mention, the delay only has us waiting an extra two days.

In addition to changing its release date, Obi-Wan Kenobi will now also release its first two episodes at once. That means we get an extensive introduction into Obi-Wan’s world and can sink our teeth fully into the adventure. Releasing episodes weekly does have a certain appeal, but we never mind when we get more to start with. Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s release date will now bring even more cause for celebration. And speaking of, this move likely comes so they can debut these episodes at Star Wars Celebration, a Star Wars convention taking place from May 26-May 29.

As we change the save-the-dates on our calendar, we can also revisit the recent Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer we received.

Honestly, “Duel of Fates” has us immersed fully in the journey no matter how many times we hear it play. Obi-Wan’s upcoming adventure will take us deep into a relatively unexplored part of the Star Wars world. And by the looks of things, it will pull out all the stops to do it.

The description for the trailer reminds us:

The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader. The series stars Ewan McGregor, reprising his role as the iconic Jedi Master, and also marks the return of Hayden Christensen in the role of Darth Vader. Joining the cast are Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie.

We can’t wait to reunite with Obi-Wan, Darth Vader, and all our old and new companions when Obi-Wan Kenobi releases on May 27.
