Avatar: The Last Airbender arrived on Netflix in May. Fans rewatched the Nickelodeon animated series set in an epic world where benders wield the four elements. Many others, however, discovered the show that originally aired from 2005-2008 for the first time. It’s been exciting to see so many people discussing Avatar on social media, exclaiming over the story and the cuteness of Appa. And now, fans will be able to easily watch the next chapter of the story. The Legend of Korra will arrive on Netflix on August 14th.

The four-season animated series serves as the sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender. Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko from Avatar created The Legend of Korra. It stars Avatar Korra, Aang’s successor. Aang’s son even narrates the show’s opening title sequence. But it’s a very different world. The Legend of Korra takes place 70 years after the events of Avatar. Aang founded a new sovereign state during his time as the Avatar—the United Republic of Nations. Korra’s story begins there, in Republic City. Korra is 17 years old, so she’s five years older than Aang when we first met him. Hailing from the Southern Water Tribe, Korra is a waterbender. She’s in Republic City to learn airbending from Aang’s son, Tenzin.

Korra is the Avatar in a time when technology is on the rise. The four nations aren’t what they used to be. Even if a war isn’t looming, the Avatar has to contend with political uprisings, spiritual unrest, and numerous foes. She suffers trauma again and again. Series co-creator DiMartino said they wanted to take Korra on the journey from a brash warrior to a spiritual being across the show, which ran from 2012-2014. It feels like a more grown-up series than The Last Airbender from the start, though with Korra’s main crew, plenty of laughs and silliness break up the drama.

You can watch (or rewatch) The Legend of Korra on Netflix in the United States on August 14th.
