The Princess Bride is a perfect film. Rob Reiner’s 1987 classic features indelible characters and amazing moments. Somehow though it doesn’t have its own LEGO set. We know! Inconceivable! Fortunately that might not be true for much longer. An original fan design  has been submitted to LEGO Ideas.

It needs more backers though for the chance to go from a wish to a reality.

F.S. Leinad has submitted a The Princess Bride: The Guilder Frontier project to LEGO Ideas. The original design contains the three classic duels seen in the movie, and follows the reunited Westley and Princess Buttercups’s journey through the Fire Swamp. The set also feature six brick-built mini-figures: Vizzini, Inigo Montoya, Fezzik, The Man in Black, Princess Buttercup, and a rodent of unusual size.

Even in LEGO form those rodents are upsetting.

But thanks to feedback Leinad has already added suggestions that would improve on the 1,000-piece set. The first is minor but obviously necessary: giving Fezzik a rock to throw.

The other is a lot bigger and would add an additional 327 parts to the collection. A new design includes the Pleasure Cruise Through Eel Infested Waters. It consists of two boats. One for the trio and one for the Man in Black.

While it might seem inconceivable, there has never been a LEGO set for The Princess Bride. Leinad says that’s why they decided to make one on their own “And after a few months of pondering, I started the actual building process, and have tried my best to do the classic justice.”

Obviously they should feel like they are doing very well. And with 715 days still left to get the roughly 4,500 more backers they need for formal consideration, a perfect movie is well on its way to getting a perfect set.

Just as we wish.
