All you have to do to get us excited about a new Pixies album is tell us when and where it will be available, but the band’s upcoming seventh full-length studio album is even more in our wheelhouse than usual. Specifically the wheelhouse we keep in the broken down shed of a haunted Victorian castle where a family of four disappeared one dark and stormy night. The band’s next record has a haunting, spooky theme, which is clear in the first track that was just released: a song about a witch using her dark magic in a cemetery.

“On Graveyard Hill,” which we learned about at Rolling Stone, is the debut song from the Pixies’ next album, Beneath the Eyrie, described in the record’s official press release as being 12 tracks entirely about “witches, Daniel Boone, misfits” and other horror/creepy/scary topics. That description certainly fits this first song (whose lyrics you can find below). It’s a guitar-heavy track about a witch named Donna who summons the singer to his death in a graveyard during the witching hour.

“Alexa, repeat song and order a cloak.”

Beneath the Eyrie is the band’s first studio album since 2016’s Head Carrier, which also had some horror-themed songs. It doesn’t come to stores and digital until September 13, plenty of time before Halloween, but you can pre-order it now. Also, ahead of the album, the Pixies will also release a 12-part podcast titled It’s a Pixies Podcast, which will be available this summer on June 27. Hosted by British music journalist Tony Fletcher, it will see the band get into the making, writing, and recording of each of the 12 tracks on the record.

We’re in on both. It’s the Pixies, after all. We would be even if this wasn’t a spooky-themed album. Though that certainly doesn’t hurt our horror-loving dark hearts.

“On Graveyard Hill”

And when the moon grows smaller Donna picks out a flower
Gives her a witchy power there in the witching hour in the witching hour
Donna’s taking her potion eating all my devotion
Fucking up my emotion in the witching hour
Donna picks her a flower in the witching hour
On the graveyard hill she’s calling out her curse
I’m taking my last breath with each chapter and each verse
And soon I will be killed
In the poisonous forest Donna lights up her torches
Her eyes are flying saucers her hair is black and gorgeous
I see her down at the crossroads she can lead you to madness
She’s leading me into darkness in the witching hour
In the witching hour in the witching hour

On the graveyard hill she’s calling out her curse
I’m taking my last breath with each chapter and each verse
And soon I will be killed
On the graveyard hill she’s calling out her curse
I’m taking my last breath with each chapter and each verse
And soon I will be killed and soon I will be killed
