Marvel’s train of live-action and animated offerings refuses to slow down. There are quite a few things to look forward to like Moon Knight and the next Doctor Strange film. We love some multiverse madness. But this year is really the year of girls. With Ironheart making her debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Moon Girl springing to animated life in her own series, and Ms. Marvel, the youth really are the future. Ms. Marvel is perhaps one of the most highly anticipated offerings, a hero that we don’t see as often as a Muslim American. Now, Disney+ is giving us our first real look at Marvel Studios’ Ms. Marvel with a delightful trailer and a release date reveal. Ms. Marvel is coming to the streaming service on June 8 and we will certainly be watching.

In the clip, which uses The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” to perfection, we meet Kamala Khan and get into her teenage world. She is a high school gamer and fan fiction writer who marches to her own beat, wearing her superhero shirts with pride despite her mean classmate’s thoughts. We also meet Kamran, the guy whom she’s so obviously in love with… to the point that she fawns over him publicly while stepping on his shirt.

Oh the weird innocence of a crush. She lives in her own head where she’s a hero and people adore her like Captain Marvel. We also get to see her life outside of school as she worships with her family and chats with her best friend Bruno. Kamala Khan wonders if she’s fooling herself because, in her words, “it’s not really the brown girls from Jersey City who save the world.”

But that’s not quite true. She unlocks her glorious powers and says it feels cosmic. It becomes far more than her imagination could’ve thought but she’s having the time of her life. Ms. Marvel’s trailer shows us a hero that we all can use: gleeful, sweet, awkward, and not yet jaded by the happenings of the world. Let’s see how this supergirl saves the world.

Ms. Marvel premieres on June 8 on Disney+.
