If you’re a musical act that has been in the business for any length of time, at some point you are likely to guest star on The Simpsons. Pretty much every big name in the music industry has appeared, from surviving Beatles to U2. And now, it’s Weezer’s turn. The band will cameo on this weekend’s episode, titled “The Hateful Eight-Year-Olds.”

As we wait for Weezer’s Springfield debut, you can watch Weezer play The Simpsons theme song down below.

The animated version of the group will portray a Weezer cover band called Sailor’s Delight, who will then cover actual Weezer songs from The Black Album and Pacific Daydream. They will also play a new song called “Blue Dream” from their forthcoming album, Van Weezer. (It’s all very meta.) Sailor’s Delight will be playing on board a cruise ship, where Marge and Homer are enjoying a vacation getaway to rekindle their romantic spark. I somehow feel like this has already been an episode of The Simpsons, but after 30 years, they are pretty much on their second attempt at most storylines so we’ll give it a pass.

The new Weezer album was meant to drop on May 15, and this episode was no doubt meant to serve as promotion for it. But the album has now been delayed, probably for the reason most bands have had a hard time releasing new content: because the COVID-19 pandemic has made promoting nearly impossible.

Weezer appearing on The Simpsons is a bit of pop culture synchronicity, as for years now, fans have been arguing over whether both the band and the show peaked a long time ago and are now running on fumes. So this appearance will no doubt have social media on overload with snark.

We can’t wait.
