Canceled BATGIRL Movie Cast and Crew Reveal Looks at the Film

Here at Nerdist, we are big fans of Batgirl. There hasn’t been a lot of live-action love for the character; however, that was going to change really soon. We felt ready for Batgirl, starring Leslie Grace as the fearless Barbara Gordon, to hit HBO Max. But now the Batgirl movie has been shelved altogether. It’s a shame considering the cast and crew got the heartbreaking news after completing filming. And, with such an incredible cast, including J.K. Simmons and Michael Keaton, it surely would have been a win for the DCEU. But, decisions were made. And now, the cast and creators have to parse through their feelings. Leslie Grace herself has spoken out about the Batgirl film cancellation with a special message to her colleagues and fans.

Warner Bros.

In the very short Twitter thread addressing Batgirl‘s sudden shelving, Leslie Grace says she is “proud of the love, hard work, and intention all of our incredible cast and tireless crew put into this film over seven months in Scotland.” The initial tweet shows a gorgeous drawing of her in the Batgirl costume. (She looks so awesome in it.)

The second and final tweet thanks all of the Batgirl fans who gave her love as she put on the cape and became her own damn hero. Leslie Grace signs off her message with a video of her halfway in Batgirl costume as she sings “I Will Always Love You.” Damn.

It’s like driving a knife through the heart. Let’s form a manifestation circle that Batgirl will somehow, someway get to see the light of day. Preferably in a theater where it belongs.
