This month Harley Quinn returns to HBO Max for its third season. It’s going to be a quiet year for the adult-animated comedy. Minus the part where Joker runs for mayor, Poison Ivy endangers everyone in Gotham, Nightwing tries saving the city with Batman’s super serious vocal inflections, and Harley has to be both hero and villain. Okay, now that we think about it things won’t be that quiet. But the newest season three trailer for Harley Quinn shows why all of that chaos should make for another entertaining year.

We’ve been waiting to see (and hear) Harvey Guillén’s Nightwing since HBO Max first announced he’d join the show back in March. And no surprise, the What We Do in the Shadows star does not disappoint. In Harley Quinn‘s season three trailer, he has the perfect amount of gravitas combined with the absurd comedy we love from the show. He’s not the only big name who is getting in on the fun. Gotham’s best power couple is back with big plans. But things take a turn when Harley realizes her girlfriend’s ultimate endgame will mean a whole lot of innocent people dying. That’s when she’ll have to stop Poison Ivy herself.

Here’s the official synopsis for Harley Quinn season three:

The mayhem and madness continue in season three of this biting and uproarious adult animated comedy series. Wrapping up their “Eat. Bang! Kill. Tour,” Harley Quinn (Kaley Cuoco) and Poison Ivy (Lake Bell) return to Gotham as the new power couple of DC villainy. Along with their ragtag crew – King Shark (Ron Funches), Clayface (Alan Tudyk), Frank the Plant (JB Smoove) – “Harlivy” strives to become the best version of themselves while also working towards Ivy’s long desired plan of transforming Gotham into an Eden paradise.

This season will also feature a cameo from James Gunn playing James Gunn. Will he survive the Joker’s campaign? Could he get caught up in Ivy’s killer terraforming vines? If either happens at least we know Batman, Nightwing, and Harley are all on the case. And whether they take it seriously or not, it’ll be fun watching all of them work.

Harley Quinn also stars Matt Oberg (Kite Man), Christopher Meloni (Commissioner Gordon), Andy Daly (Two-Face), Diedrich Bader (Batman/Bruce Wayne), James Adomian (Bane), Sanaa Lathan (Selina Kyle), and Briana Cuoco (Batgirl/Barbara Gordon). The show returns with its first three episodes of season three on Thursday, July 28. Harley Quinn streams on HBO Max.
