Your First Look at Laverne Cox in ROCKY HORROR Special

Your First Look at Laverne Cox in ROCKY HORROR Special

You can’t hope to compete with Tim Curry‘s take on the iconic Doc from Transexual Transylvania, so Fox’s Rocky Horror Picture Show for TV is going in a totally different direction, with Orange Is the New Black‘s Laverne Cox looking like “the love child of Grace Jones and David Bowie.” Entertainment Weekly just exclusively revealed the outfit, and it’s most definitely eye-catching:

THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW: L-R: Laverne Cox and Ben Vereen.

Cox not only faces the challenge of reinterpreting the role made famous by Curry–she has to do it in front of Curry himself, who will play the narrator this time. Ben Vereen, above, plays Dr. Scott. Other cast members include Victoria Justice and Ryan McCartan as Janet and Brad, Game of Thrones‘ Staz Nair as Rocky, Adam Lambert in Meat Loaf’s old role of Eddie, and Christina Milian as Magenta.

Cinematically, it would be a mistake to try and “re-make” the film, but Rocky Horror was a play before it was a movie, and has been done with many different casts on the stage. The plan for this adaptation is to come up with new visuals while keeping the music and book intact. Although if you check out the images below of Janet, Brad, Riff Raff, and Magenta, you’ll see they’re not so drastically different that you can’t still tell who’s who. There are even more images and details over at EW.com.

So, are you feeling the antici…
