The Next Three X-MEN Universe Movies Just Got Release Dates, and They’re All Next Year

In a world where the MCU seems to rule when it comes to releasing multiple movies per year (three are coming out in 2017), the X-Universe has decided that 2018 will be their turn in the spotlight. According to this tweet from Box Office Pro, we are going to be getting our mutant fill next year:

New Mutants (4/13/18)

First up will be the New Mutants. In the comics, these are the third generation of Xavier’s students, after the original X-Men and the “Giant-Size” X-Men. While I am looking forward to seeing some new characters, and not just the same characters recast, I wonder which continuity it will be set in. Since Cable was first introduced in New Mutants, this could be part of the Deadpool universe and have them introduce Josh Brolin to the franchise. On the other hand, with Mystique the field leader of the X-Men, this would give Professor X another team to guide within the X-Men universe and then have both teams unite in November’s Dark Phoenix.

Deadpool 2 (6/1/18)

The sequel most X-Fans will be waiting on the most comes out in June, as Ryan Reynolds returns as the Merc with a Mouth. This time he is joined by his running buddy in the comics, Josh Brolin’s Cable. This past week we also got confirmation on the return of Blind Al (Leslie Uggams). While there is not a lot out there as far as plot goes, I can already assume we’ll be laughing quite a bit. I can already imagine Brolin’s facial expressions when dealing with Deadpool’s shenanigans.

Dark Phoenix (11/2/2018)

Rounding out the X-Universe trifecta will be the next movie in the X-Men timeline, Dark Phoenix, arguably the most famous X-Men storyline of all time. We were teased about the power Jean Grey has inside her at the end of X-Men: Apocalypse. Now that we know the official title of the movie, so many questions arise. Will they go a different direction from The Last Stand? Is the Phoenix Force part of Jean’s psyche, or is it the alien force from the comics? If they take more from the source material, it will give the X-Men a chance to go cosmic, which is something that this entire franchise has yet to do. Also, since Hugh Jackman is done as Wolverine, it will give 20th Century Fox a chance to establish a new character to replace him as the franchise player ( Quicksilver).Sometimes it’s hard to look at the X-Universe series of films and figure out what is going on continuity wise. I think that unlike the MCU linking everything together, you have to see the X-Movies as individual stories and try to avoid putting them in some sort of order. Then again, the comic continuity is so confusing at times, the movies seem to just follow suit. Regardless of when and where these movies take place, they are definitely going to be on everyone’s 2018’s must see list.So what do you think? Which of these movies are you looking forward to the most? What are you hoping to see out of each film? Should Keira Knightley have played Cable? Let me know on Twitter or sound off in the comments below.
