X-MEN Series LEGION Gets a Release Date, New Trailer

FX’s forthcoming Marvel series Legion didn’t earn quite the same fanfare at New York Comic Con as some of the imprint’s more renowned screen adaptations. Nevertheless, Legion did put on quite a show for those fans with enough foresight to pop into its panel on the last day of the fest. We in attendance got to view the first half hour of the series’ pilot, which introduced the troubled (and perhaps gifted) main character David (Dan Stevens), the psychiatric institute setting, and a slew of clues at something sinister brewing beneath the surface. Ever since watching the episode, I’ve harbored a great deal of curiosity about how, not to mention when, the series would go about exploring all elements presented. At least one of those questions is answered in Legion‘s latest trailer.

In addition to revealing the series’ official premiere date of February 8, the trailer taps rather overtly into the Orwellian themes only hinted at in the footage shown at NYCC. Here, David is shown to be the victim not of mental illness—as he’s always been led to believe—but of a conspiratorial effort to keep tabs on his would-be superhuman abilities. The trailer introduces characters played by Jean Smart (Legion‘s ostensible answer to Prof. Xavier), Katie Aselton (David’s wide-eyed sister Amy), Rachel Keller (David’s fellow “person of interest,” Syd), Mackenzie Gray (one of the wolves on the prowl of David and company), Jeremie Harris (an insider named Ptonomy Wallace), and Aubrey Plaza (David’s friend and fellow psych ward patient).

Assured that Legion will dive right into the darker themes only alluded in the series’ introduction, I’m all the more excited and curious about what’s in store for February 8. Will you be tuning in? Let us know!
