Why TRANSFORMERS: DEVASTATION Is More Than What Meets the Eye

Autobots, roll out! You remember that cel-shaded Tranformers game that people were super excited about over the weekend? That game is called Transformers: Devastation and it’s being developed by one of the most renowned studios in the 3D hack-and-slash genre: Platinum Games. For those of you who don’t know, these are the same guys behind the Bayonetta and Devil May Cry franchises, just to name a few.

Over the years, Platinum Games has garnered a reputation for stylish combat mechanics that are accessible and allow people to be creative when hacking and slashing through waves of enemies. A good example of how this is applied to Transformers: Devastation is the ability to OTG (off-the-ground) an opponent with a launcher maneuver– similar to what you see Dante do to his enemies a ton in DMC– and transform into a vehicle mid-combo to deal some extra damage. Sounds pretty insane, right? I didn’t even mention how this game borrows quite a few shooting mechanics from the classic Platinum Games title, Vanquish.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the amount cool things about this game, so I’m here to deliver you all of the reasons why Transformers: Devastation is more than what meets the eye. Check out the video at the top of the page, and tell me if these reasons sound worthy of you purchasing the game day one!

Stay tuned here on Nerdist for more of the most excellent E3 coverage, and to chat about all of the gaming madness happening her at the convention center, I’m only one tweet away, @Malik4Play.
