What Our Google Searches Revealed about Us in 2015

How will you remember this year? What will stand out to you? Will it be something that you’d rather forget? Something that challenged your faith in mankind? Or will you choose to remember 2015 at its best? Because it turns out that in the last twelve months, as hard as they have been at times, we’ve done quite a few things worthy of celebration, and more importantly worthy of hope. Plus we had some fun too.

Google has put together a look back at 2015 based on some of our most popular searches from the year, that ones that remind us of all the good we are capable of, and of our desire to help others. These were the moments that touched us and brought us together during a time when it can be so easy to feel apart.

“How can I help the refugees?”

Set to the speech from Caitlyn Jenner at the ESPY Awards, the video touched upon stories that mattered, and mattered to us.

“Why can’t women be Army Rangers?”

From the long overdue debate about the Confederate flag, to Cecil the Lion, to the television goodbyes of Don Draper and David Letterman, a lot happened. We got to celebrate a World Cup title thanks to our favorite team of women, and while we stopped arguing over whose love is worthy of a marriage certificate, we were also forced to face the fact that inequality still exists.

“How can we overcome prejudice?”

When we weren’t busy taping ourselves dance, we let the color of a dress distract us, all while we waited to go back to a galaxy far, far away.

“How can the world find peace?”

This was a year that saw far too many innocent people lost, but we also made important strides.

As Jenner said, “We’re all different. That’s not a bad thing; that’s a good thing. And while it may not be easy to get past the things you don’t always understand, it is absolutely possible if we only do it together.”

“Search on” indeed.

Here’s to hoping the 2016 video is even longer.
