‘Weird Al’ Yankovic Takes Us On A Tour Through Toyland For RadioShack

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic Takes Us On A Tour Through Toyland For RadioShack

RadioShack has come a long way since the days of Teri Hatcher and Howie Long as the retailer’s celebrity spokespeople. For the store’s most recent round of holiday themed commercials, they decided to go with someone that is unanimously beloved. This certainly was not a “Tacky” decision on the aging electronics company’s part.

The wild and wonderful “Weird Al” Yankovic stars as a salesman who sings a lovely song about RadioShack’s toyland as a way to say, “Black Friday is right around the corner, people, so set your alarm clocks and get ready for doorbusters!”

Yankovic’s gadget-inspired ditty isn’t necessarily a parody, but it’s equally as unique as anything, well, you can find at RadioShack!

The “Toyland” singer ends his ode with the fitting lines, “This is where you always start if you’re wanting to get smart,” and it was enough of an incentive for us to proceed over to RadioShack.com and start making a wish-list of stocking stuffers.

(Might we suggest the Afinia H480 3D printer? It’s pricey, but you know you’re totally worth it.)

Bonus points to the RadioShack casting director for featuring actress/comedian Alison Becker as Yankovic’s co-star. She’s the bestest.

Because we feel like there isn’t such a thing as too much “Weird Al,” let’s end this post with one of our favorite songs off Mandatory Fun. It’s a special song that we were honored to help produce with our good friend. Also, is it still too late to sign that petition to have Al play the Superbowl? Hope not.

So, sit back, relax and try to forget about how Kim Kardashian broke the internet this week.

Alison Becker…hmm. Nice to know who was costarring!

  2. Wanda says:

    ” isn’t necessarily a parody”

I’m going to pretend you didn’t really say that, because you already know that the song is a direct parody of the song from the 1961 film “Babes in Toyland.”

    • Patti Brown says:

You are right, it is a parody. Also, I believe he says “This is where you always start when you’re wanting to gift smart!” That is the new Radio Shack holiday campaign. I love the ad.
