Watch MST3K’s Tom Servo and Crow Audition for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

We know the Star Wars universe is home to some of the most iconic and beloved droids in cinematic history, but shouldn’t it big enough to be home to two of the funniest robots ever too? I mean, would it have killed J.J. Abrams to cast Tom Servo and Crow from Mystery Science Theater 3000 in The Force Awakens? Especially after the great auditions they gave?

During the auditions, proud union member Tom Servo and “non-union” Crow T. Robot were both offended that they were expected to only read for the part of BB-8. (I think Tom would have made a wonderful Kylo Ren myself.) While nobody likes to be typecast, even a robot, it’s tough to deny how good they both were at “beeping.” Although, as Tom Servo pointed out, “You know we don’t all beep. I’ve actually never met a bot that beeped.”

As a bonus, I think Crow may have given the greatest argument of all time for C-3PO being vastly superior to R2-D2.

This very funny video posted to Funny or Die was made as part of the “Bring Back MST3K” campaign currently going on, where the show’s creators are using Kickstarter to raise the funds to make new episodes. They currently have enough for six episodes, with over 3.5 million raised, but if they can get to 5.5 million by December 11th they say they’ll make a full 12-episode season.

We already know Patton Oswalt, Jonah Ray, and Felicia Day will be part of the cast, and considering how freaking great this short video is, make sure you do your part to make it happen. Especially because I’m not sure we live in the galaxy where the two of them actually were cast as R2-D2 and C-3PO.

What non-droid Star Wars role would you most like to cast Tom Servo or Crow in? Tell us in the comments below.
