Watch (and be Watched By) #WarGames – A New Interactive Series

When we saw the first teaser for MGM and Eko‘s upcoming new interactive TV series #WarGames, which re-imagines the classic ’80s Matthew Broderick movie as a modern day thriller following hackers as they make their way through espionage and government conspiracies, we didn’t understand exactly how it would work. What would it mean for us to “play the game?” How would we get to influence the story as it unfolded? Should we be afraid of a “show that watches you?” We had so many questions we didn’t want to wait for the show’s premiere to get answers, which is why we’re partnering with them to bring #WarGames to you. So if you want to learn how the show makes you a part of it , you can watch the first episode here right now.

“Chasing Bryce” introduces us to Kelly, who show creator Sam Barlow says is “a young woman who is part of a gang who hang out online and participate in some online pranks and stunts.” However as we learn in this first episode, a personal tragedy and possible government coverup will push her and her friends to dangerous new places in pursuit of the truth.

Don’t worry about being confused by the interactive element though, you’ll catch on quickly. The show “records your behavior” by tracking the action and characters you prefer to focus on, which is how “your behavior shapes Kelly and changes the story.” You can even choose if you want the PG-13 or R-rated version, in case you’re at work.

We love how at the end of the episode we get a map of how our decisions led the story to go in different directions, but we’re already obsessed with all of the places we didn’t go. Which is why we already watched it again, intentionally focusing on different places. Believe us, that leads to way more changes than you might have even expected.

That’s why even though we’re teaming up with Eko to bring the show to you, we now have even more questions about what will happen next. We really do want to play a game.

What do you think of this first episode? Where do you think the story–and you–will go next? Tell us in the comments below.
