TV-Cap: THE X-FILES Is Coming Back, Jim Beaver to Return to SUPERNATURAL, & More

After sharing a little disappointing news yesterday, I’m pleased to report today’s television happenings are all in the good news category. Some of them are even cause for celebration. And hey, don’t we need any and all reasons to celebrate on a Wednesday? Make your day better by catching up on this TV news: the return of The X-Files, the return of Jim Beaver on Supernatural, new Orphan Black Season 3 pictures, and more.

We Believe. Mulder and Scully are coming back. Fox has announced that The X-Files will be returning for a six episode event. David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, and the series creator Chris Carter are all involved, and everything is awesome. Well, given the subject matter of the show, it probably isn’t awesome but it is worth getting excited about! [Nerdist]

Not Quite Ariel. Once Upon a Time had a touch of The Little Mermaid in its most recent episode. “Poor Unfortunate Soul” explored Ursula’s backstory, and basically, it’s Ariel’s. And I mean the animated Ariel, not the Ariel in Once. No, that’s not confusing at all. Read Samantha’s recap and get sorted out.

Idjits. Jim Beaver will be reprising his role as Bobby Singer in the April 1 episode of Supernatural. More Bobby is always a good thing, and many fans (myself included) have missed the character since he was killed in Season 7. Thankfully, being dead in Supernatural doesn’t mean characters are gone forever. “Inside Man” will see Sam and Castiel turning to Bobby to get assistance from someone in heaven. [Variety]

Bringing in the Big Guns. Black Sails is gaining a new pirate in Season 3, and that pirate’s name is Blackbeard. Ray Stevenson (Thor: The Dark World) has been cast as the infamous character, also known as Edward Teach. He “returns to settle some unfinished business, but a great deal has changed during his absence, and he will have to disrupt cemented alliances and challenge new ones to achieve the impossible.” [TVLine]

Another Check-In. American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy has announced another series regular for the next season of the show, American Horror Story: Hotel. He tweeted that Chloe Sevigny, who appeared in the series in Season 2 as Shelley the nymphomaniac, is slated to return. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Hedge Fund Drama. Showtime is taking its new drama Billions to the bank. The series stars Paul Giamatti (Chuck Rhoades) and Damian Lewis (Bobby “Axe” Axelrod), and Showtime’s ordered 12 episodes of the hour-long show. The series explores the drama of the world of New York finance. To that end, financial journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin is writing on the series along with Brian Koppelman and David Levien. The series will premiere in 2016. [TV Insider]

Cosima (TATIANA MASLANY)

Castor Clones Are Scary. We have 15 new photos from Season 3 of Orphan Black to stare at and examine, and the images are doing nothing to make me feel better about the Castor clones. Ari Millen is giving them a terrifically creepy vibe. Aside from Castor, the photos show a healthy-looking Cosima, Cal and Sarah, and lots of intense looks. See the rest of the photos here at Nerdist.

An Irish Vampire. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Preacher pilot has cast another co-lead. This time it’s Jesse Custer’s friend Cassidy. He’s an Irish vampire who likes to cause trouble, and he’ll be portrayed by Joseph Gilgun (Misfits). Gilgun joins Ruth Negga in the cast of the series based on the comic of the same name by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. [Deadline]
