TV-Cap: STARS WARS Live Action TV Series Update, THE 100 Season 3 Promo

Remember how I was just talking about surviving TV’s upcoming winter break by looking ahead to other series? You can also use your free time to binge and prepare for those series. Read today’s TV-Cap to learn how you can stream Season 1 of Galavant for free before the comedy comes back, find out about a pre-premiere for The Magicians, see a brief promo for Season 3 of The 100 (yay!), get an update on the possibility of a Star Wars live action TV series, and more.

No Waiting. Syfy’s The Magicians, an adaptation of the book of the same name by Lev Grossman, technically isn’t premiering until January. However, Syfy’s delivering a Christmas present to fans. They’ll air the first episode on December 16 at 10:00pm after Childhood’s End. As an added bonus, it will be commercial free! If you’re planning to record the premiere, set your devices manually because it might not be listed on Syfy’s schedule. [Lev Grossman]

Celebrate with Laughs. Can you believe MADtv has hit its 20th anniversary? They’ll be celebrating the milestone with a reunion special on January 12 on The CW, not Fox. The hour-long show will feature several cast members including Keegan-Michael Key and Phil LaMarr, a “best of” look back, and new material. The CW will also help you catch up by putting 75 MADtv episodes on CW Seed as of January 5. [Deadline]

On the Table. In the years before George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney, he had a few projects still in the works. There was the video game called 1313 and live-action television series called Star Wars: Underworld. During The Force Awakens press tour, Slashfilm asked Kathleen Kennedy about those projects–especially Underworld because there were reportedly several completed scripts. Kennedy said, “So our attitude is, we don’t want to throw any of that stuff away. It’s gold. And it’s something we’re spending a lot of time looking at, pouring through, discussing, and we may very well develop those things further. We definitely want to.” We tackled the topic in the latest Nerdist News (embedded above). Do you want to see Underworld happen? [Nerdist]

Coming Back. Showtime has dropped two renewals: They’re bringing back Homeland for Season 6 and The Affair for Season 3. [Vulture]

Gaaalaaavant. If you didn’t watch Season 1 of Galavant, ABC’s silly and clever medieval musical comedy, please remedy that. I implore you. Season 2 returns on January 3, but you can head to iTunes from December 14 to January 2 and stream the eight-episode first season for free. You’ll be singing the theme song in no time. This Is Perfect. The return of Mystery Science Theater 3000 is the gift that keeps giving, and production hasn’t even started. Joel Hodgson continues to share delightful news via his Kickstarter page (the campaign ends Friday, December 11), and the latest update listed guest writers for the return of MST3K. Are you ready? The scribes include Dan Harmon, Ernest Cline, Justin Roiland, and Pat Rothfuss. [Nerdist]

Devil in the Details. The first season of Scream Queens focused on the identities of the murders and lots of sorority girl laughs. The finale aired this week, and if you need to rehash everything that happened, read Samantha’s recap and thoughts on the episode.

Twisted Holidays. The Flash got in the holiday spirit with its winter finale but with a metahuman twist. The Trickster, the Weather Wizard, and Captain Cold escaped prison to cause trouble for Barry and company, and Zoom returned. Oh, and a member of Joe’s family showed up. It was a big episode, but my favorite moment was seeing Captain Cold drink out of a reindeer mug. It kind of encapsulates everything I adore about The Flash. In Danger. The Flash will return on January 19, and a promo for the episode shows Patty is threatened by Zoom. Also, it hints Barry is ready to share his extracurricular activities with her, which only seems fair since everyone else already seems to know. [Comic Book Resources]

One More Thing. I have one more The Flash related news item–it’s been a busy week for the series. Iris lost her boss this season thanks to Doctor Light, but a new editor for Central City Picture News has been found. Tone Bell will appear in the back half of Season 2 and play Scott Evans. [Variety]

Clarke In Trouble. It has been too long since The 100 has ripped out our hearts, but the drama will return on January 21. A full trailer for Season 3 is coming on Monday, but The CW aired a short promo last night and whew. They packed a lot into 20 seconds. Clarke, Bellamy, Kane–things look as dark as ever. [Nerdist]
