TV-Cap: Daisy’s New Look on AGENTS OF S.H.I.EL.D., SUPERGIRL TV Origin Story, & More

It’s been a busy start to the week in the world of television news, so let’s cut right to the chase, eh? Read today’s TV-Cap to see Daisy Johnson’s fancy new outfit for Season 3 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., to learn about the songs on the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series mix tape, to see Supergirl’s TV origin story, and much more.

Wardrobe Change. Daisy Johnson (formerly known as Skye and also known as Quake) has a new role in Season 3 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and is getting new threads to go with it. L.A. Times debuted Daisy’s new suit by costume designer Ann Foley and talked to her and Chloe Bennet. The costume definitely shares similarities with the character’s look in the comics–especially the gauntlets. Foley said, “In the style lines, I wanted to pay a little bit of a tribute to her tactical ability from last season, but we also incorporated the Quake symbol into her gauntlets and on the back of her suit.” [ScreenCrush]

Playlist Time. Music played a significant role in the Guardians of the Galaxy film, and that apparently won’t change in the upcoming animated series from Disney XD. The show will premiere on September 26, and the soundtrack will be available digitally and physically on October 16. Cosmic Mix Volume 1 will feature 12 songs, including beauties like Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” and Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now.” I look forward to seeing how these tunes are incorporated into the show. Looking for a Life. Oh, to have the problems the Crawleys face in Downton Abbey. The final season of the series is on the way, and a new trailer from PBS shows a look at the drama ahead. Edith wants a life, Mrs. Hughes and Carson deal with romance in the workplace, and the Dowager Countess is as delightful as ever. I’m not being sarcastic–I really do think she’s delightful. Spoilers ahead for The X-Files.

Splitting Up. It’s not a secret that when The X-Files returns to television, it will do so with a separated Mulder and Scully. Chris Carter talked to The Hollywood Reporter about his decision to split the couple, and it makes sense. Having them apart brings in another kind of conflict. He says, “We put some of the tension back in that was relieved by them being together. It added to the storytelling opportunities.” And hey, it just means you get to root for them being together all over again. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Stay on Target. Once Upon a Time returns to ABC on September 27, and the premiere episode sounds like it will be hopping. Emma disappears as soon as she becomes the Dark One, and her Storybrooke pals have to call upon an unlikely ally to find her. Then, in the Enchanted Forest, we encounter Emma and Rumplestiltskin, Merida (!), and the Knights of the Round Table. Whew. Photos from the premiere highlight all those characters and you can see a whole gallery of images at Give Me My Remote.

Get Spooky. Hot Topic has rolled out Orphan Black and Penny Dreadful everyday fashion lines, and now, they’ve translated the costumes of American Horror Story to a line of dark and lovely apparel. The pieces are inspired by different seasons of the anthology, and they are all striking. See the entire collection here.

Back to 1985. Ahh, the ’80s–the music, the outfits, the parties. It’s easy to look back and romanticize the era, and Amazon’s new series Red Oaks leverages any and all nostalgic feelings you may have about the decade. The show follows college student David Meyers as he works a summer job at the Red Oaks Country Club and tries to find his place in the world. The 10-episode first season will premiere on Amazon streaming on October 9.

Into the ’90s. Speaking of turning the clock back, let’s jump to the ’90s. Remember all of Nickelodeon’s series that aired during that decade? Ren and Stimpy, Clarissa Explains It All, and Rugrats are just a few of the gems I watched throughout my middle and high school years, and they’re coming back on a new channel called The Splat. The channel will be dedicated to Nickelodeon’s cartoons from yesteryear. No launch date has been announced but stay tuned to The Splat’s website to be in the know. [Nerdist]

Ahh, Emotions! Origin stories seem to be part of every on screen adaptation of comic books ever. That’s not always a good thing or even necessary, but it makes sense for CBS’s Supergirl to explore the beginning of Kara Danvers’ story since people may not be familiar with it (or at least not as familiar as they are with Superman’s backstory). A new behind-the-scenes featurette goes in details about her origin, and though it’s packed with spoilers and footage that will be in the series once it premieres on October 26, it also features insights from cast and crew. Also, I’m so impatient for Supergirl that I can’t help but watch all the videos. [Comic Book Resources]

Accuracy Is Key. The list of reasons USA Network’s Mr. Robot was successful is too long to discuss here, but we can focus on one of the items on the list: the hacking. Sam Esmail committed to approaching hacking in a truthful, realistic way and to help, he had technical consultants like Michael Bazzell on board. Our own Alicia Lutes interviewed Bazzell about his work on the series, and it’s fascinating, if I do say so myself. Read the interview right this way.

Special Times. Season 8 of Robot Chicken is so close to being here. The show returns on October 25 on Adult Swim, but you can dive back into the stop motion world a week earlier than that. Robot Chicken DC Comics Special III: Magical Friendship will air on October 18.

What do you think of Daisy Johnson’s new look? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
