TIMELESS Will Get a Two-Hour Series Finale on NBC

Timeless was one of the rare television shows to survive cancellation only a few days after the order came down.

However, low ratings sealed the fate of Timeless after its second season, and NBC once again pulled the plug on the show. While efforts to find a new home for Timeless have failed, the series will not leave fans on that massive season two cliffhanger. Instead, NBC will reunite the cast and creators of Timeless for one last story. Via The Hollywood Reporter, NBC has ordered a two-hour series finale for Timeless that will likely run during the upcoming holiday season. The possibility of a wrap up for the show was floated last May, and NBC came through on that promise. Series co-creators Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke released a joint statement thanking NBC for the opportunity to wrap up their tale while expressing gratitude to the fans who supported the series for two seasons.

While the show left many of its mysteries unresolved, the biggest lingering issue was the fate of Rufus Carlin (Malcolm Barrett). In the second season finale, Rufus was seemingly killed off before future versions of Lucy Preston (Abigail Spencer) and Wyatt Logan (Matt Lanter) arrived with a plan to team up with their past selves and save their friend. Ryan and Kripke teased that resolution in their statement by adding “You guys want to get Rufus back or what?”
