Jeff Goldblum is THOR: RAGNAROK’s Hero of Hilarious Deleted Scenes

Thor: Ragnarok is easily among the funniest movies that Marvel Studios has made in the last ten years, and it was also the most popular Thor film at the box office. Audiences embraced director Taika Waititi‘s signature sense of humor, but did you know the film could have been even sillier? Two extended scenes from Thor: Ragnarok have demonstrated that Waititi took the comedy further than anyone realized. And international treasure, Jeff Goldblum, was at the middle of both scenes as the Grandmaster—because of course he was.

As amusing as that clip was, it probably would have undercut the Grandmaster to introduce him with an even more over-the-top scene. Even Thor didn’t seem to be taking it very seriously as he bantered with the Grandmaster and his doomed cousin. The unfinished effects of the flying creatures actually adds a lot of laughs as well, but perhaps not quite as intended.

The second extended scene comes from a later point in the film, after the Grandmaster had lost both his “champion” and Thor. Grandmaster’s absolute giddiness about a possible public execution would have been funny enough, but the majority of the new footage deals with a very hilarious sequence between Goldblum’s character and Rachel House’s Topaz, as they couldn’t quite agree on which symbols are universal.

Thor: Ragnarok be released on digital formats on Tuesday, February 20. The Blu-ray and DVD release will follow on Tuesday, March 6.
