This Week on the Nerdist Podcast Network: Hilary Swank, Patton Oswalt, Joe Rogan…

Okay, let’s see, what did we have on the Nerdist Podcast Network this week? Oh, just Oscar winner Hilary Swank, a few comics like Patton Oswalt, Joe Rogan, and Rob Riggle, the folks behind Bojack Horseman, Nicole Beharie talking Sleepy Hollow… you know, the usual stellar lineup of guests.

We had four — FOUR! — Nerdist Podcasts this week. Don’t get spoiled. First, Hilary Swank and Chris had busy days when they sat down to record the Nerdist Podcast — every day’s busy for Chris, and Hilary spent the day doing press for her new movie The Homesman — but that just made the show seemed relaxed and maybe a little loopy. Hilary talked about her career — I’d forgotten she was on 90210! — and Chris did his Morgan Freeman impression, so there’s that.

The 600th Nerdist Podcast was a bonus episode (hence, four this week) with Joe Rogan, and if you’re a fan of Joe’s podcast (and even if you’re not), there’s some good stuff about how the show came about and developed. Talking about working with the late Phil Hartman on News Radio leads to a talk about addiction and side effects and cat poop (that really is a logical progression, which you’ll hear). And Joe tells the story about almost getting into the ring with Wesley Snipes.

Sports is an infrequent topic on the Nerdist Podcast, but with Rob Riggle back for another visit, there’s a little of that, based on his experiences on the Fox NFL pregame show and at the ESPYs. But there’s a lot about social media and how some fans mistake characters for the actors who play them, and there’s discussion of improv.

Can’t be sure about timing — I have to write this before a few of the shows get posted — but the fourth Nerdist Podcast this week is with Adam Savage, back this time to promote the Mythbusters Live tour, which leads to talk about, well, touring. And the nerd stuff Chris and Adam have individually amassed, and his tested.com website, and the changes coming to Mythbusters, and Joni Mitchell, because why not. It’ll drop sometime Friday, so be ready.

You a math major? Run this equation through your head: Patton Oswalt plus The Todd Glass Show equals… this. Patton comes to the showroom and there’s a jingle for him, of course, and there’s mutual admiration, which, well, yeah. But Patton, wary of what Todd puts guests through, called the show “the Crossfit of podcasts,” which is a great slogan, come to think of it.

Another big star is Sleepy Hollow‘s Abbie, Nicole Beharie, and because Sleepycast: The Official Sleepy Hollow Podcast is indeed official and because Clarke Wolfe does such a great job bringing the recaps and inside stuff to you, the viewing public, Nicole and the Sheriff, Sakina Jaffrey (from House of Cards, too!), dropped by to offer their insight. And if you say “YouTube stars,” you think of… no, not PewDiePie. Our kind of YouTube stars are Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart, and Mamrie Hart, and they did the star thing on Lies with Sara Schaefer, talking about all the money they make being international Internet video superstar-type people.

Brittanni Johnson is both a voiceover actress (Borderlands) and a gamer, and she guested on The Indoor Kids because someone suggested her as a guest to Kumail and Emily on Twitter. She talks about how she got into the business while still in school at S.M.U. and quit law school to come to L.A. for voice work, and the talk goes to games and, somehow, Spring Break locations, because that’s how this show goes.

How the heck did something as demented as Netflix’s BoJack Horseman get past all the gatekeepers? Creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg and designer Lisa Hanawalt told all on Nerdist Writers Panel. One of Hollywood’s best “that guy”s, character actor Michael Ironside, talked pop culture with Cole and Vanessa on Pop My Culture. Kevin and Steve’s old friend from Colgate days, Gillian Vigman, reminisced on Chewin’ It, and who else can say she played the wife of Bradley Cooper in The Hangover and Jack Box on the Jack-in-the-Box commercials AND did a highly offensive sketch with Steve?

Warning: This week’s You Made it Weird with Pete Holmes gets heavy. Guest Harris Wittels is back for more, and it goes to his rehab stints and his addiction and it’s pretty deep. If you’re interested in the dark side of the people who make you laugh, it’s a must-listen.

Sex Nerd Sandra offered advice from Australian sex therapist and coach Cyndi Darnell. Comic writer (Y: The Last Man and many others) Brian K. Vaughan talked about his craft on Nerdist Comics Panel. Jessica Chaffin — Ronna of Ronna and Beverly fame — joined Janet for The JV Club, and, WARNING: They talk about Serial, so, spoilers. Frank and Sadie Doyle returned to hunt ghosts with guest WorkJuice Players John Hodgman, Ted Leo, and Cecil Baldwin on Thrilling Adventure Hour, and speaking of the WorkJuice Players, Sparks Nevada — Marc Evan Jackson — talked acting, improv, and space with Gil on The Mutant Season. Matt Braunger did a full hour’s worth of Ding-Donger, and comic Josh Adam Meyers was the guest on the highly fact-based Today We Learned. The Wrestling Compadres Slamcast had last-minute predictions and trash talk for Survivor Series. Musician Greg Katz got the Terrified with Dave Ross treatment. And Cash and T.J. were Cash and T.J. on a new Cashing In with T.J. Miller.

So, go to the Nerdist Podcast Network homepage to listen and subscribe, and come on by the Nerdist Podcast Network Facebook page. Share ’em, memorize ’em, hoard ’em. You won’t be disappointed.
