This Week at Nerdist Theater at Meltdown!

2011 is coming to a close, and with it, our programming for the year at Nerdist Theater at Meltdown Comics in Los Angeles.  We just opened in April, but the past eight months have been some of the best ever, and we thank all of you who have come out to support and laugh and have fun with us. You can see some of our favorite moments of 2011 at GeekChicLA. Also, check out the new heading over the NerdMelt Theater doors!

After taking a bit more time off to celebrate the end of the year, here’s what we’ve got for you this coming week…

On Tuesday at 8pm, it’s The BEATdown!

Comedian Eliza Skinner and beatboxer Joshua Silverstein host five of Los Angeles’ finest comics and one audience volunteer in “The BEATdown.” It’s a freestyle rap face-off decided by the audience – six rounds of badass one-on-one rap battles. You saw 8 Mile, right? Like that, but funnier.

Our performers in January are all past winners: Utkarsh Ambudkar, Colton Dunn, Blake Hogue, Billy Scafuri, Zach Sherwin, and Andree Vermeulen!

$8 in advance, $10 at the door!

Wednesday at 8:30pm, it’s The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail!

Our weekly standup show, hosted by Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani, welcomes Matt Besser, Karl Hess, Greg Fitzsimmons, Adam Conover, Brian Babylon, and Greg Proops!

Tickets are $8!

And on Thursday at 8pm, it’s The Smartest Man in the World!

It’s just Proops and you. There’s no fan fare. Greg Proops takes center stage at a small table and chair setup with a single microphone. Then he’s off. An hour of great conversation that flies by at a breakneck clip. He crams the feeling of a great two-way conversation into the lecture-style format of a one-way conversation.
Part professor, part crazed comedian, Proops forms the show around his talent and passions. The show flows like a love letter to tangents. The Proopcast has been to Australia, New Zealand, Montreal, London, Edinburgh, Austin, Cleveland, San Francisco and off the coast of St. Martin in the Caribbean all in one year. Now you must fall.

Be there and experience joy for once in your life.

Tickets are $10.

That’s all for the first week of January, but we’ll have more and more as 2012 kicks into full swing! Check us out on Twitter and on our blog, and we’ll see you in the back of Meltdown Comics!
