This GILMORE GIRLS: A YEAR IN THE LIFE Fan-Made Intro is Fresher Than Luke’s Coffee

By now, most of us have buzzed through Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life (some of us have likely watched it more than a few times). Overall, fans seem mostly pleased with the reboot—though I’ve yet to meet a single Gilmore fan who was 100% satisfied with where every character ended up. Still, the reboot felt like the original series. Still, the Netflix reboot was missing one very important piece: that iconic Gilmore opening credits sequence set to Carole King’s “Where You Lead.” So Gilmore Girls fan and Youtuber Rose Tyler took matters into her own hands, and made us the rebooted opening credits that we deserve.

The reboot chose to kick things off with a bit of a nostalgia blast by opening with a voiceover of some of the original show’s most iconic lines, and episodes after that didn’t have any sort of title sequence at all. And while the reboot ultimately ended with the Carole King song playing over the closing credits, it was kind of sad to not see that familiar sequence we’ve all come to love.

As for Tyler’s efforts? This new opening sequence looks amazing, and feels like it was something legitimately made by Netflix for the reboot. Of course the credits were missing Jared Padelecki, but with his short-but-sweet appearance it makes sense. And as a Team Jess girl myself, I can’t help but read into Milo Ventimiglia‘s placement before Matt Czuchry in the opening sequence.  But maybe that’s just me…

Regardless of which of Rory’s boyfriends you root for, the title sequence is cute and wonderfully nostalgic. And sure, we may not be ready to let go of the events from A Year in the Life, watching this video helps take us back to when we first visited Stars Hollow.

What did you think of the opening title sequence? Did you like how Netflix opened A Year in the Life, or did you miss the traditional Carole King-infused opening? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!
