This Custom IRON GIANT Lego Set Could Become Reality

Despite having been able to find a proper audience when it was first released in movie theaters back in 1999, director Brad Bird’s animated film The Iron Giant is now considered an animated classic. The story of a humongous alien robot who befriends a young boy in ’50s America recently got a theatrical and Blu-ray re-release, which included a new documentary about Brad Bird’s making of the film, and much more. Clearly, the love for The Iron Giant has only become louder and more intense over time.

Now an Iron Giant fan who goes by the username BrettCUV has proposed the idea to create a brick-and-minifig representation of the beloved film for the LEGO Ideas Lab, where hardcore Lego fans can submit their ideas for future sets. If they receive enough votes from other fans, Lego can consider them for actual manufacture and sale. In the past, fans have proposed Lego sets for the likes of The Golden Girls, Firefly, and many other pop culture favorites. But with The Iron Giant actually being a property aimed at kids, it might have a real chance at happening this time.

According to BrettCUV, the project should include “[five] main characters: The Iron Giant with changeable eyes and weaponry to depict his evil state from the movie, Hogarth Hughes with the alien bolt he finds at the end of the film, Annie Hughes and a coffee pot, Kent Mansley and a fedora, and Dean McCoppin with a coffee cup. The entire build consists of approximately 2,023 pieces, including the Giant, mini figures, and accessories.”

He continues, “The Giant’s head rotates and tilts, and his arms, legs, wrists, hips, and ankles are all articulated to both accommodate his size and weight, and allow him to replicate classic poses from the movie.” Right now he has a few hundred supporters backing up this idea, but if you want to see this become a reality, be sure to have your voice heard now by clicking right here.
