THE ORIGINALS’ Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies Tease the Mikaelson’s Thanksgiving

When The Originals celebrates Thanksgiving, it gives new meaning to the phrase “awkward family dinner.” You thought your family holidays were filled with tension? You’ve got nothing on the Mikaelsons.

Now that Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) have put aside their issues with each other (and that was no small feat), they’ve instead focused their rage on their sire lines. Turns out that the Trinity, aka the first vampires Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah (Claire Holt) ever turned, are all plotting against their makers. But since they can’t kill the Original siblings without the whole sire line dying out, they’ve come up with a way to take them out while still keeping them alive.

The only issue: the Trinity needs all three Mikaelson siblings in one place to make that happen. They’ve captured Rebekah in her Original body, and now they need to take out Klaus and Elijah. But since the Original brothers now know what Tristan (Oliver Ackland), Lucien (Andrew Lees), and Aurora (Rebecca Breeds) are planning, they’re poised to take action themselves to save their sister and their own lives.

So what can fans expect to see from The Originals‘ Thanksgiving episode Thursday night?

“You can expect cranberry sauce. You can expect turkey. There will be stuffing,” Gillies told Nerdist on set. “I’m not a gambling man, but if I were to bet, there would be stuffing on the table.”

Gillies laughed and continued, “There’s an interesting interrogation between Klaus and Elijah and the unholy Trinity. They have an edge over us, basically. We are trying to deduce the whereabouts of our sister by stringing them over hot coals. They’re our prisoners, basically, during Thanksgiving.”

Morgan was excited to shoot the Thanksgiving dinner scenes with the Trinity because it’s the first time all season long that Klaus, Elijah, Tristan, Lucien, and Aurora were together in present day, and not just in flashbacks.

“That was a lot of fun to shoot,” Morgan told Nerdist on set. “I love those three new actors we have, so it was exciting for us all to be in the same room finally. Of course, there’s drama. It’s not just us all holding hands and saying, ‘I’m thankful for the fact that Elijah betrayed me.’ There’s a lot of drama and we go into it with a plan and I’m sure they do as well. Not everybody can get what they want, so it makes for an interesting episode.”

But that’s not all that goes down in tonight’s episode, “Out of the Easy.” Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) will find herself getting closer to witches Davina (Danielle Campbell) and Freya (Riley Voelkel).

“Hayley is trying to build relationships with different characters to build allies,” Tonkin told Nerdist on set. “With The Strix in town, there’s a lot of moving around and people’s loyalties are changing. Having someone like Davina on Hayley’s side is important, especially with what’s happening over the next few episodes. And same with Cami [Leah Pipes].”

She continues, “What I like about Hayley is her main objective is to keep Hope safe and to keep a happy, normal life in New Orleans with her husband and her baby. That’s her one priority so she’s making allies with people who can help her do that.”

And if the Trinity learns about Hope’s existence, Hayley is going to need all the allies she can find to keep her daughter safe.
