THE ORIGINALS Boss Talks Davina’s New Mission, Hayley’s Grief and More

All is not well in New Orleans right now on The Originals.

Cami’s (Leah Pipes) been turned into a vampire with a taste of the dark side, Jackson’s (Nathan Parsons) been killed by the Strix vampires in the ongoing war with the Originals, Davina’s (Danielle Campbell) been shunned by all the covens in New Orleans—is anyone happy right now?

Nope. Not even in the slightest.

Now that Davina has lost any connection to the witches as a result of her killing a fellow witch, expect to see her choose a side in this war against the Original vampires in Friday night’s episode, “Wild at Heart.”

“Being shunned sucks because nobody is talking to you and you don’t have any power anymore,” executive producer Michael Narducci says. “You don’t have any political sway or any influence and [Davina] is almost like a homeless teen living in New Orleans trying to get by. She is going to make a comeback in a big way. Her number one drive is ‘I got into this mess being Regent because I wanted the power to locate and find and resurrect my boyfriend, this guy I fell in love with who I believed that I can trust.’ She is going to reach out to that person in a very major way and we may in fact be seeing in some form a reconnection between Davina and Kol [Nathaniel Buzolic].”

The Originals

While Davina has the chance to see her dead ex again, Hayley [Phoebe Tonkin] unfortunately had to say goodbye to Jackson for good last week. We’ll see her heartbreaking grieving begin in this episode.

“There’s that anger, pain, denial, acceptance grieving process that she has to go through,” Narducci says. “She will show you the natural inclination of someone who’s lost someone close to them to rely on the strength of the bonds she has with the living. We’ll see a burgeoning of friendship between her and someone whose name I cannot say.”

Now that Hayley’s a widow, what does that mean for her ongoing relationship with Elijah (Daniel Gillies)?

“We’ll see some really beautiful scenes between her and Elijah in the aftermath of this,” Narducci says. “Him trying to comfort her, her wanting to accept that comfort but knowing it’s wrong given their past and the feelings they have for one another, and then ultimately once the dust settles and she manages to be through with her grieving, a pretty definitive and harsh response on her part to get back at those who are responsible for what you saw. That’s a very empowering character that I like watching.”

But Hayley and maybe some other New Orleans residents are going to start realizing that if it wasn’t for the Mikaelsons, they wouldn’t be going through so many heartbreaking moments.

“We will see some people that will be like, ‘The Mikaelsons are the problem. The Mikaelsons came to this town and they spoiled everything,'” Narducci says. “‘How are we going to respond and how are we going to put the Mikaelsons in their place?’ Some people who we really love and thought of as staunch allies are going to turn against the family. Who is that going to be? Who will firm up their alliance with the Mikaelson family? You don’t want to be their enemy.”

The Originals

In Tristan’s (Oliver Ackland) absence, that means Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) is finally going to have to pick a side: the Strix or the Mikaelsons.

“Now that Marcel is in charge of the Strix he is going to be put into a difficult position,” Narducci says. “Those are all the shifting alliances and the changing terrain of who the opposition force is that is our wheelhouse and what we like to play with.”

But have we seen the last of Tristan?

“That’s a good question,” Narducci says with a laugh. “I cannot tell you that. Sometimes being very vindictive bites you in the ass.”

Someone who is definitely returning in a big way is Detective Will Kinney (Jason Dohring).

“It’s going to be interesting to see now that a certain person is changed forever and is a vampire, what is her perspective on lowly little mortal human police detectives and what might that relationship look like?” Narducci says. “And how does that new change of perspective define a person whose name I cannot mention?”

The Originals

After getting an idea of what kind of a vampire Cami will be in the final moments of last week’s episode, fans will come to understand that her moods are even more manic/depressive than any other vampire transition we’ve seen before.

“Cami is first going to have to come to terms with who and what she is,” Narducci says. “And then she’s going to have to decide [what to do about Aurora], and she will have an absolute clear perspective on her feelings for Aurora going forward, and it’s not the kind of feeling that human Cami would’ve had.”

But Narducci is most excited to see some fan-favorite characters return and see what that means for everyone on the show.

“We’re going to see the return of some people, and there will be some great moments of hope and romance and love, and even forgiveness,” Narducci says. “And a sense that this family that we think of as cursed will endure. And then we’re going to see some really tragic moments that will shake particularly Klaus to his core. I think the finale will be heartbreaking and tragic, as our finales tend to be.”
