Who Is the Secret Cameo in DEADPOOL 2?

  1. Jan W. says:

Amazing episode. Best part – Ultima Online !!!

  2. maru says:

When they started talking about how Mononoke and Spirited Away could scare children I went, “THAT CHILD WAS ME!” (I absolutely refused to watch any Miyazaki until the age of 12 because of Mononoke and I still get a little anxious watching Spirited Away)

Also, Howl’s Moving Castle is based on a book. That is why the fire talked (that doesn’t explain Billy Crystal, but who can?)

  3. s1yfox says:

well what do you know, another podcast on the nerdist that I’m going to subscirbe to! awesome show you guys!

  4. John G. says:

Great stuff. Really good episode, Chris Kluwe strikes me as a solid dude.

  5. Rob III says:

Sparkle Pony!!! All my favorite things in one podcast.

  6. NotMF says:

Anyone else inspired to make a list of their gaming history and keep track, on the off chance that they’ll reach some level of fame and be asked to be a guest on the podcast one day? Just me? Alright then.

  7. r_m says:

Chris Kluwe: Cool guy, cool hair cape.

  8. Bobby G says:

I hate to be that guy, but here I go. You guys got Devil May Cry wrong. The first one is good the second one is the worst one and the third is the best one in the series. This is usually the rule among DMC fans about this series. Also, I love the new one too.

  9. Mescalineous says:

Wow Anthony. You really snapped the full spectrum of human nastiness right back into a sharp focus for me. For a brief moment, hope for the world began to bloom inside me, like a rose pushing its stem through a crack in the cold, dead concrete of reality and tentatively stretching its petals toward the sun. Thanks for lighting it on fire and then pissing on the remains of its smoking flowercorpse. Much obliged.

  10. Joe says:

Kumail and Emily, my podcast loyalty to you guys is the only thing that got me through this episode. Barely. If any of you out there like listening to fast-talking know-it-alls, Chris Kluwe is your man. Ugh.

Side note – Kumail, caught you on Talking Dead. My wife, who is very picky when it comes to comedy, laughed at every one of your jokes. Kudos.

  11. Anthony pickett says:

Now complain about your name like anyone cares who you are or how your name is spelled.

  12. anthony pickett says:

@Neil so you are assuming that all regular clan members frequent. The guild forums and that we all read the applications? Ads far as I remember being in the guild only the officers had a say who joined. Also. He never just announced he was a kicker in guild chat it never came up. You are also using “google” as something people say now and days and when vanilla came out noone was saying “google” it or “google” is your friend. I’m glad you think you know everything can google. That proved NOTHING.

  13. Mescalineous says:

I say this without hyperbole or irony: You guys just brought a fucking tear to my eye.

Hopefully this display of human decency on the internet won’t pollute my personality with any more latent optimism than necessary.

  14. Charlie says:

I was being a drunk bastard. Sorry mate.

  15. Daniel says:

Charlie, did you mean to say that I couldn’t be MORE smug? If so, my intention was not at all to be patronizing or condescending.

It was only last year (with the advent of Nvidia’s mobile Kepler GPUs) that LAPTOPS with better-than-console graphics became both cheap and not-so-bulky, so I didn’t want to assume that Kumail and Emily knew about it.

  16. Charlie says:

Daniel, I think you could have been a little more smug when telling them how consoles pale in comparison to the PC. I’d be willing to bet they understand that a PC will run better than a seven year old console.

  17. Daniel says:

Oh, and I know Emily has given reasons in the past why she doesn’t want to get into PC gaming (she likes to keep her computer solely for work, hence she uses a Macbook), but given the apparent success of your podcast, couldn’t you guys wrangle a free or loaner gaming laptop from some company? Kumail could use it to game while traveling instead of lugging the Xbox, and if you wanted to you could hook it up via HDMI to your TV at home and use wireless PC controllers.

Actually, you wouldn’t even need a powerful laptop. The current unusually long console cycle has meant that now even a midrange laptop has better graphics that the Xbox 360 or PS3, with faster loading times as well (Skyrim!). I started playing Tomb Raider on my PS3, but switched to my Lenovo Y580 to take advantage of sharper graphics and mouse and keyboard for shooting.

  18. Daniel says:

I’m neither an American nor an American football fan, but this podcast was an unexpected delight. Previous guests have been great, but (asides from game developers) they seem to have been concentrated heavily among comedians and other entertainers. I understand that naturally Kumily would invite people they know from their day jobs and regular social networks, but this podcast shows how a little more diversity might be rewarding!

In particular, you’ve had guests who’ve played computer games before, but this is the first guest I recall who’s had the opportunity to talk at length about them. It seems the other PC-playing guests stuck mainly to talking about console games, perhaps because that is what they had in common with Kumily. Not that I don’t understand why console gaming is the mainstream, but if you’re going to talk about the history and current state of gaming, computer gaming has been pivotal in the past and is the focus of a lot of innovation today. Here’s hoping we eventually get a guest who has played DayZ (the Arma2 zombie mod) and not just the Walking Dead!

  19. farleyk says:

Ah Studio Ghibli. When my neices were very young, they didn’t like “things with mean people in them”. Thus they weren’t so hot on a lot of stuff made for kids, which invariably has an evil protagonist. So, when I gave them videos of “Kiki’s Delivery Service” and “My Neighbor Totoro”, I was, for a brief time, the cool uncle. Spirited Away, however, was reserved for much later, ’cause there’s some spooky things in there.
Oh, and I laughed so hard at Emily’s “brown meat” joke, my iPod fell and yanked the earbuds out of my head. Hilarious.

  20. Anthony pickett says:

Umm….what? I was in The Flying Hellfish on Kiljeaden server from vanilla to the opening of AQ when I left. Names Mercenary/Exyso. Either he is lying and just loves the guild because we were amazing or he hides what he does verywell online. I mean I’m a redskins fan but I woulda loved to know obese raiding with a NFL player…wth.

  21. Alec says:

When I first got FTL, I held off on the teleporter, but I learned how awesome it could be when I unlocked the Mantis B layout. Nothing can stop my marauding insectoid crew!

Also, Emily, if you’re continuing on a Steam binge, I’d love to hear your thoughts on Kentucky Route Zero.

  22. Did NOT disappoint! đŸ™‚ Also, if you want to go for some classy video game art, may I suggest this website:

I’m pretty sure you can blow them up, make your own posters, and frame them.

  23. If there were a rating system for people, Chris Kluwe would score a 100.

  24. Mark says:

Wow made a comment on the nerdist ep with kluwe asking for his consideration as an indoor kids guest. It has come to pass. Logical conclusion being that i now have superpowers. Great episode.

  25. Jake says:

Outdoor kid out indoored the indoor kids.

    Dude knows his games.

  26. Peter Whitney says:

I say more resin figures in the house, and throw in some action figures too because they’re articulated.

  27. As a life-long Vikings fan I have both an unhealthy level of anticipation for listening to this and a whole new respect for Kluwe. This is gonna be great!
