The Indoor Kids #139: Indie Gaming and SXSW with Brandon Boyer

This week the Kids are joined by Brandon Boyer, Chairman of the Indie Games Festival, to talk about the landscape of indie gaming, some of his favorites to play, and why he loves games that come from the mind of one person. Plus you can come with Kumail and Emily to Austin, where they eat weird meats and delve into some gaming expos!

Science Explains Why Your Cat Keeps Knocking Stuff Over

Science Explains Why Your Cat Keeps Knocking Stuff Over

  1. Conner Jared Fields says:

    DFTBA Kumail Nanjiani?

  2. Jeff S. says:

I used to go to Pauline’s in Chicago sometimes. Do you guys remember a waitress named Omega?

  3. phillip medoc says:

Ha! Tullycraft! One of my roommates was a superfan of that group and the whole “cuddlecore” scene or whatever you call it; they actually wrote a song about her. Merge is great; they’re reissuing a bunch of classic Superchunk albums next week or so. Good music that never really got the attention it deserved.

Dark Soul 2, y’all! It’s kicking my ass. I would love to hear Emily and Kumail take on that game. It’s one of the best looking last gen games, that’s for sure.

  4. Liam says:

Tullycraft! I have some of their records somewhere 😀

  5. Mr. Tony says:

First, @Messofanego your profile pic just made my day.

    Second, great episode as always.

Third, Dark Souls 2 comes out today, so the rest of video games are pretty much over. It’s been fun.

    Fourth, Video games!

  6. Mark says:

I played the Last of Us DLC a few nights ago and really loved it! It’s not too long but perfectly paced. You get a great story and some awesome gameplay moments. The atmosphere of those games is so awesome, scary but also intriguing, and the characters and story is always brilliant. I really hope they release more stuff like it.

  7. BuddyCthulhu says:

I started listening to the cast about a month ago after hearing you guys on the Nerdist cast. Just wanted to say you guys put out a fantastic show. It is now the only damned thing I look forward to on Mondays. My love of obscure games and pop culture is is gloriously validated with every episode. Keep up the awesome!!

I shall now begin a comment war.
Crono Trigger is the best product Squaresoft or Square Enix has ever produced. DISCUSS!!!

  8. Jordan says:

As someone who enjoys indie games this was a great list of some stuff I’d never heard of.

    Thank god Rocksteady is back.

  9. Noel says:

I think Brendan got funded for his medical bills which is awesome. Talking of the medical insurance reminds me of that joke about Breaking Bad being set in Canada. Chemistry teacher gets cancer, gets treated, feels better.

I don’t know how I feel about the Batmobile being in the next batman game. One of the cool aspects of those games was gliding from rooftop to rooftop and using the grappling hook. Though it’s the original developers again so I trust they’ll implement it well.

    Great show guys.

  10. Wildride says:

So, instead of fjord as in “pining for”, fjord as in “as designed by Slartibartfast”, Emily?

Speaking of, skewing people who sit around quoting Monty Python (of which I am surely one):

  11. Messofanego says:

Did not know Brandon was at GAF talking about Katamari Damacy, that’s cool to hear. Great episode so far.
