THE DAN CAVE: 5 TV Shows That Were Too Insane to Be Aired

Hello there and welcome to The Dan Cave! My what excellent posture you have!

This past weekend at PaleyFest in New York City, The Wire creator David Simon revealed that there was a spin-off to his cult classic series in the works following the political machinations of Tommy Carcetti (Aiden Gillen). Bafflingly, HBO passed on the project, forever dashing the hopes of fans likes yours truly of spending more time in that weird, Wire-y world Simon created. It just seemed so insane to me that a show like that proposed spin-off with that kind of creative pedigree couldn’t come to fruition.

But obsessing over that kind of thing will drive you crazy. To help ease the pain over the TV show that never was, today I’m counting down 5 TV shows that were too insane, too weird, too over the top, too something to make it as a series. From talking motorcycles to anthropomorphic dog detectives to skin-tightening popsicles to talking lobsters and beyond, it’s all here in today’s episode of The Dan Cave.

Which one of these would you like to have seen most? Chances are I left out your favorite never-made TV show too. Rather than silently stew about it like so much meat in a pressure cooker, why not let me know in the comments below? Or you can take to Twitter and whisper it to me gently (@Osteoferocious) using the hashtag #TheDanCave.

I have the pilot episode of Heat Vision and Jack, and it’s so glorious. Even before it starts, when Ben Stiller is mocking George Lucas.
