Terrified #76: Moshe Kasher

Moshe Kasher is a comedian and author based in Los Angeles. He and Dave discuss the double life he led as a child, splitting his years between the conventional American community that is Oakland, California and a strict Hasidic Jewish community in Brooklyn, New York. The talk the differences between the two, the ways he was ostracized from each, how it affected him then and now, and on and on and on. It was fascinating. Dave was absolutely fascinated.

I’m at the point of the podcast where Moshe is worrying about how this interview will be perceived. I’m a big fan of Moshe, and I listen to The Champs and Hound Tall. The way I take these stories is as a warning about dogmatic thinking, not any particular morality tale about the Jewish community in specific. It’s all good. It sounds like you are actively trying to decide what this community means for you, both then and now. Thanks for sharing!
