TEKKEN 7 Announced at EVO 2014, Powered by Unreal 4

The King of Iron Fist tournament is back for yet another run, and it’s looking like this might be its final iteration, in the latest installment to the famed 3D fighting game series, Tekken 7.

The title was officially announced last night via a huge on-stage reveal by Tekken creator Katsuhiro Harada at this year’s EVO fighting game championship, though the news had originally leaked earlier in the day. Here’s a look at the first teaser trailer that was unveiled yesterday during the tournament:

Geez, the Kazuya/Heihachi rivalry is about as convoluted as a Metal Gear Solid plot line– I’m not even sure who the good or bad guy is at this point. And is that Jun, Jin Kazama’s mother, who appears to have returned from the dead to battle the fighting Mishima family?

Probably the best news about Tekken 7 is that it’s due to run on Unreal 4, the first game of the series to make the jump to the powerful new game engine. Hopefully this results in fluid, unbroken animations and a decent online infrastructure.

No word on what platforms to expect the game on, though more details on Tekken 7 are set to be revealed during the fighting game panel at Comic-Con in two weeks. If you want to talk Tekken or anything else fighting game related, I’m only one tweet away at @Malik4play.

Of all the engines they could have used, they picked Unreal Engine 4? Seriously?

  2. Dave T says:

That was actually Kazuya’s mother. She says something about him inheriting her powers.
