What New Movie Trailers Could Premiere During the Super Bowl?

For sports fans the Super Bowl is about crowning a new football champion, but for us it’s all about seeing new movie trailers. On today’s Nerdist News Talks Back we discussed which ones we think we’ll get this Sunday and if Solo will be one of them, as well as the latest Cloverfield news, and if we had the stomach to watch Tom Cruise snap his ankle.

Host Jessica Chobot was joined today by Nerdist News writer Joey Clift, Mothership writer Amy Vorpahl, and editor Kyle Anderson, and they started with the trailer that refuses to be released, Solo. There had been speculation its elusive first trailer would premiere during the big game this weekend, but new reports say it won’t. Is the lack of promotional materials for a huge movie due out in May (May!) a terrible sign? How worried should we be? Could Lucasfilm push back the release date? And of all the movies that might have trailers air during the Super Bowl—including The Incredibles 2, Infinity War, Black Panther, and Cloverfield—which ones are we most excited for?

We broke that and more all down on Nerdist News Talks Back.

Speaking of Cloverfield, the third movie, previously known as God Particle, might head straight to Netflix. Is this a good move for the franchise? With the new film reportedly set on a space station after Earth has vanished, does that mean we’re getting monsters in space? And is it really possible J.J. Abrams has already finished filming the fourth movie that could come out this October?

Finally, Tom Cruise and the cast of Mission: Impossible – Fallout stopped by The Graham Norton Show, and Cruise brought along the footage of when he broke his ankle on set. Did we have the stomach to watch it? Was that stunt worth the risk to the film’s star? What do you think of him for finishing the shot? And is this a sign Cruise should slow down?

Nerdist News Talks Back airs live at 1:00 p.m. PT on our YouTube and Alpha channels. Because dammit the Solo trailer has to drop one of these days, and when it does we’re going to want to talk about it with you.

We still want to hear your thoughts on today’s topics though, so talk back to us in the comments below.
