Stephen Moyer Cast in Fox’s X-MEN Pilot and More TV News

Fox’s untitled X-Men pilot is taking shape as far as the cast as concerned. Jamie Chung has been brought on board as Blink, and today’s TV-Cap has news about the lead of the series. Keep reading for more details, to get an update on the release date of Star Trek: Discovery, to learn about Training Day‘s Bill Paxton tribute, and more.

Dad Duties. Marvel and Fox have brought in Stephen Moyer to play the lead in their as yet untitled X-Men pilot. The story centers on a family on the run after they discover their kids have mutant abilities. Moyer will play the father of said family. According to Deadline, Reed is “an ambitious attorney trying to balance the demands of his job at the DA’s office with his responsibilities to his family.”

No Hints. Orphan Black‘s fifth and final season will arrive on BBC America on June 10. I know. It’s a sad occasion. But, this is the kind of story that deserves a proper ending rather than winding on forever. Get more pumped about the last season with a mysterious teaser that doesn’t really tease so much and tells us what we already know: the clones are going to stick together. [CBR]

Drama Talent. NBC’s developing a pilot centered on a high school drama department, Drama High. It’s based on the novel of the same name by Michael Sokolove. They’ve found one of the students for the pilot: Moana‘s Auli’i Cravahlo. [TVLine]

Sweet Summertime. Raise your hand if you’re hooked on Riverdale. I can’t quite explain it, but The CW series has moved itself onto my must watch list with only a few episodes. If you watch the show and you’re curious about what happened the summer before the series begins, then Archie Comics has a prequel comic for you. Also called Riverdale, the over-sized one-shot comic will be available in comic shops on March 1, but you can get a healthy preview here at Nerdist. [Image: Archie Comics]

No Return. Heads-up for fans of Incorporated: Syfy has decided to cancel the series. [Deadline]

Fall (Maybe?). The release date for CBS’ Star Trek: Discovery has been moved around a few times. I don’t have a concrete answer about the premiere for you, but I can share CBS president and CEO Leslie Moonves threw out a window during a recent call with investors. He said the new Trek series will arrive in late summer or early fall of 2017. So… later this year? Hopefully. [/Film]

A Tribute. Variety reports CBS’ Training Day will remember Bill Paxton at the top of its next episode, airing March 2. The actor, who passed away Saturday from complications after heart surgery, starred alongside Justin Cornwell in the series. Paxton’s left quite the legacy, which we discuss in a recent Nerdist News:

Art! I know season three hasn’t arrived yet, Rick and Morty fans, but how about something to help tide you over? That something is The Art of Rick and Morty book from Dark Horse Comics. See the cover and get details here at Nerdist.

Going All In. Cryptozoic Entertainment is throwing down with a new game based on Batman: The Animated Series. The card game is inspired by the beloved episode “Almost Got ‘Im.” You can see the play-through above; it’s similar to Werewolf in that all the characters are playing rogues, but one of the players is actually Batman in disguise. Homecoming. Monday night’s Supergirl brought the return of Jeremiah Danvers. Read Samantha’s recap of the episode right this way.

Is He Back? Samurai Jack‘s long-awaited last season will be here on March 11, but is it worth getting excited about? Kyle A. has a review that might help you manage your expectations. Read it here at Nerdist.
