STAR WARS Fans React to THE FORCE AWAKENS

I’m not great with numbers, but I’m going to assume 88% of the people reading this have already seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and those that haven’t are likely as not seeing it this weekend. It’s a cultural touchstone and the “it” thing of the moment. So excited are people for this movie, and so not interested in getting anything spoiled, that many have actually taken to a complete media blackout until they’ve seen it. That’s pretty nuts.

Fear not, those who’ve not yet seen it, though, because we here at Nerdist try to be as spoiler-free as possible, even when asking fans about their reactions to the film. We hosted, at L.A.’s El Capitan Theater, which is owned by them there Disney folks, a marathon of all six older Star Wars films leading to one of the first public screenings of The Force Awakens on Thursday evening. It started at about 1:00am Pacific Time, so we think anybody who stuck around for the whole thing is a real trooper.

Above, we asked fans for their immediate reaction after seeing the Episode VII. There were many emotions, lots of mentions of crying, and one guy who thought it was “just okay.” That seems to be one of the lone dissenting voices, though, and most people left pretty satisfied.

And if you’d like to see what the whole marathon was like, the below video gives you a pretty good idea, with the films being introduced by Malik Forte, Kyle Hill, Rachel Heine, Dan Casey, Alison Haislip, Jessica Chobot, and Chris Hardwick, and quite a few special surprises along the way.
