SOUTH PARK Gets a “Family Friendly” Remix

SOUTH PARK Gets a “Family Friendly” Remix

Over the past 20 years, South Park has carved out an inimitable place for itself in adult animation history. Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s subversive masterpiece just keeps on going, although it has been subtly updated over the years. Even Les Claypool’s theme song and the famous opening sequence have been tweaked a few times. Have you ever wondered how the South Park opening would play like if the theme had a completely clean remix? There’s a new video that does just that, and it makes the series feel like completely different show.

The “Wholesome Edition” of the South Park theme was created by Chetreo, a musician who has previously released several terrific Rick and Morty auto-tune remixes. The most amazing part of Chetreo’s latest creation is the way that it recontextualizes South Park into something that it really isn’t. It’s not quite the Disney version of the series, but it does feel like a hilariously tame version of the show that we know and love.

If anything, this remix makes us curious to see whether Stone and Parker could make an entire South Park episode using the same approach without breaking character. We’ve come to expect so many off-the-wall and NSFW elements of the show, that it could be a lot of fun to a peer into a family friendly bizarro-South Park universe where the weirdness is still there, just below the surface.
